The LED

What is LED?

The LED represents the light of the future for the inside, outside and garden illumination. Its characteristics are exceptional, if compared to some other illumination devices. The bright LED measuring only a few millimeters, guarantee low energetic consumptions, long duration, reduced demands of maintenance, and maximum personalization in the effect of colour combination. LED is the acronym of Light Emitting Diode. it is a semiconductor device (diode) that sends forth light when the electric tide passes through a junction of silicon, opportunely treated. It was developed in 1962, initially to produce a punctual light and for industrial purposes. Unlike the normal lamps, the LED does not have an inside filament. This constructive particularity allows a longer duration and a better reliability. That's why it is an alternative system for the incandescence light, fluorescence, halogen and metal halide lamps and thanks to the continuous technological research is getting more and more advantageous.

Energy efficiency.

These recent developed lighs, have the characteristics of emitting white light without heating up too much. These are the smallest light sources, with best peformance, and can last from 50.000 to 100.000 hours (depending on which type of LED and color), this way there is no need of required maintenance. Low energetic consumption, possibility' of varied colors, no emission of UV and IR, possible use of the dimmer, immediate lighting, precise control of the bundle and minimum dazzle; they are a little bulky lamps, easy to install, to read, that don't need maintenance and they open new horizons to the lighting designers. They also have the characteristic, to end slowly than to instantly burn.
